Last Minute Halloween Spirit

How to Add Spookiness to Your Halloween

It seems to happen every year. We make it through the back-to-school chaos and just start getting into our rhythm when Halloween sneaks up out of nowhere. How dare it? Ever year is a scramble to take last minute Halloween action!

If you find yourself, like me, in denial of the fact that Halloween is one week away – it’s not too late to rid your self of the ‘bah humbug‘ and get into the Halloween Spirit. Here are some simple Halloween mood-boosters:

Last Minute Halloween spirit suggestions
  1. TREAT YOURSELF: There’s no better way to get into the Halloween spirit than with treats! The easiest (and arguably most delicious) are the infamous Pillsbury Ready to Bake Cookies. But it’s treat-yourself season, so do it up! Try the Halloween Oreos! If you’re a candy corn person, go for it! The sky full of bats is the limit!
  2. READ: One of my favorite holiday traditions is getting out our family’s favorite books. Every year I put away our Halloween books with the decorations and every year we are excited to see them again when spooky season approaches. If you find your bookshelf a bit bare, check out my Amazon Storefront: Best Halloween Books for Kids. (If you need a little more grown up spirit, you can’t go wrong with the Twilight series, or anything by Stephen King).
  3. COZY UP: Halloween is also the start of cozy season. These Target blankets fit the bill and have become a tradition for my family, we have them for every holiday. They are inexpensive and just the coziest – the perfect dash of Halloween spirit for your home. My kids have them in their rooms and we have one on our couch in the living room. (Some patterns sell out fast, so check in your local store if you can’t find it online!)
  4. DECORATE: You don’t have to go overboard to get your home in the Halloween spirit (but by all means – if you want to go overboard I fully support that, too). I have an Amazon Storefront of Easy Halloween Decorations. From outdoor lights to ghost windsocks to napkins, whatever floats your boat, er… broomstick? Many have one-day shipping, so you can be decorated by tomorrow!
  5. DRINK UP: Gotta love adult-friendly holiday traditions. Start you day in the spirit with an adorable Halloween coffee mug. If you live near a Home Goods or TJ Maxx, stop in and check out the Rae Dunn Halloween decor (chef’s kiss). Pottery Barn has some adorable mugs too, on sale right now, that may arrive just in time. End your day in the spirit, too. These bat old fashioned glasses, I can’t. And these wine glasses, too!
  6. EAT UP: If you’re going to treat yourself (see #1 above), you may as well treat yourself on Halloween-themed dinnerware. Target is the master of adorable, affordable holiday dishes with their Hyde & Eek line. We have their melamine plates and they bring out the Halloween spirit in the entire family.
  7. WATCH: We all have a favorite Halloween movie, right? Get it on and cozy up and watch it. If your spirits don’t raise, you’ll have to take the drastic step of skipping to #8 to rid yourself of your bah humbugs. My favorite happens to be the 1978 Gilda Radner classic, Witches Night Out.
  8. LISTEN UP: Halloween music is… pretty terrible. But if all of the above fail, it will definitely get you in the spirit. Check out this Halloween Spotify playlist.

And there you have it, some fun and easy ways to get into the Halloween spirit at the last minute. Now that you’re feeling festive, tell me about your favorite Halloween traditions in the comments! I can’t wait to hear all about your spooky celebrations!

Psst – get an early peek at my family’s favorite products of October!
